Every time I see a gallery wall, I oooh! and awww! over them. I have quite a few in my inspiration folder and I couldn't wait to get started on my own in my home in California. As you know, I really can't sit still and just not do anything, so I started and finished this project in one day over break! Here's how it looked before:
Just a few pictures.
First, I cut out small versions of the picture frames and paintings I knew I had:
Then I drew a sketch of my wall with the bookshelves and my bed. I tried out different arrangement on the sketch before I started nailing holes in my wall.
Eventually, I arrived at this arrangement:
I painted this for the wall:
And bought this small chandelier from Z-Gallerie on sale for only $9.99!
BLOOM is a wall decal and I framed it with a white, backless frame found at Michael's- 40% off!!
I also did a little watercolor painting of polka dots. I got my inspiration from Jen's painting over here.
See that little picture frame above? I made it by framing an inexpensive piece of fabric. I painted the wood frame white then made flowers for the frame.
Just take a long strip of fabric and twist it like this. Then coil the fabric in a circle, twisting as you go. It will end up looking like this:

This is my favorite picture of me when I was little. I'm hugging the statue of a lion at the zoo:
There ya have it! Do you like gallery walls? Have any in your own home??

Love and Gallery Walls,
this is great!! i love gallery walls and you seriously did an awesome job! I also love the way you did the shelving, very cool :)
ReplyDeleteI love gallery walls! Yours looks great :)
ReplyDeleteWe have a blank wall in our living room that I've been trying to figure out what to do with and I think a gallery wall would be perfect! You should come out to Georgia to help :)
I love gallery walls! Yours turned out beautifully. I think they tell a great story. We have several in our upstairs hallway of pictures of the girls-one series is on the "cheerleader vs. the volleyball player". Some of the pictures are a riot-the girls even switched uniforms at one point. We then have one of each of the girls for their sport-one cheerleading, one volleyball. We've gotten a lot of compliments on them. I just might have to do a post.
ReplyDeleteI love gallery walls and have plans to work on more in my own home. They just add so much character to a wall and space and I could stare at them for hours! [Okay, maybe not hours but while passing by them I can always stop and just glance at all the photos, vs, just having one or two photos on the wall :) ]
ReplyDeleteLove how yours turned out. Very bright and fun! :)

ReplyDeleteIt turned out really great!
ReplyDeleteSuch a good idea to kind of sketch it out before-hand. I should learn from this because one too many times I try to hang things, don't like how they look, and end up with tons of little holes in my wall lol
Looks beautiful, girl! x
Looks awesome Michaela! You are so creative :) Loved the idea of the fabric flowers...i may try that :) & I love Z-Gallerie! What a cheap chandelier...I've been looking for a black one for my room.

you did such a great job. I love when gallery walls are a mix of art, photos and other items. I am working on collecting enough frames for one over our couch. It is a big empty wall so I know it will have to be big to make an impact.
ReplyDeleteYou are SO creative!!
ReplyDeleteI left you an award on my page :)
