{Michigan} Beach Date + A Story!

Beautiful path along the water
Metallic Steve Maden sandals for the beach
Lake Michigan
He's really cute- I can't help but take pictures:)
Adorable down town Grand Havens
My favorite beach "cottage", as they call them. Doesn't look like much of a cottage to me!

If you've been in a long distance relationship before, you know how important quality time is. On Friday, Henry planned for us to go to the beach- Grand Haven, to be exact.  It was the perfect day of quality time. The clouds moved just behind us and the beach we were on, so it was all sunshine! I even got a little sunburn to prove it :) After our walk from town onto the beach, we relaxed on the sand and took a little cat nap. We walked back and had a delicious dinner at a yummy steak-house-grill-type-place.  Steak and mashed potatoes is my very favorite meal, so I was in heaven!
As if the day couldn't get better....
After we finished our meal, our waitress cleared our plates and asked if we wanted dessert {to which we declined because we were stuffed!}  Finally after a couple trips to and from our table without delivering the check, our waitress came by and gave us the most exciting news:

"I just wanted to let you know the couple who was sitting behind you took care of your meal tonight. The tip and everything is covered!"

After a few seconds of silence on our end, I looked at Henry to find his face of shock, and of course I started tearing up and giggling- I couldn't believe it! The waitress proceeded to tell us that they thought we were a cute couple and wanted to do something kind for us.  Wow!! Never in my life have I heard of a stranger picking up a rather large tab for someone else.  For the following 45 minute drive home, we couldn't talk about anything other than what had just happened.  Pure amazement! On second thought, maybe we should have ordered dessert ;)

A lovely day, spent with a special person. Not sure about you, but I'm so inspired to pay it forward in big ways now!  Have you ever been on the receiving end of something like this?!

Happy Thursday!
Love,

  4. That was a gift from God! Too cool! Love it when He does fun, unexpected things. And you are right...time to pay it forward and share a blessing with someone else.

Coming from a girl who was in a long-distance relationship (and ended up marrying that "boy"), I know this was a special weekend. Glad you enjoyed it!

  12. I once grabbed some lunch at Wendy's and the cashier informed me that the lady in the mini van in front of me paid for my lunch, and that she always pays for who ever is behind her when she drive's through!! I hope to someday be in the position to do that for other people!

  13. how amazing :) you two are a very sweet couple, by the way. i love michigan, we've got family there and we're going to stay on a lake there this summer, can't wait!

anyway, my husband and i were on the receiving end of something very similar on our honeymoon! we went to a nice restaurant and after stuffing ourselves and getting ready to pay the bill, we were told that someone had already paid it for us! we figured out that it was someone who worked at our hotel and was honored that we took his suggestion to go to the restaurant he recommended and wanted to treat us since we were on our honeymoon... it was so sweet and surprising! nice to know that kind of thing goes around!

  14. Goosebumps! I love this. it makes me want to cry happy tears. Hehe I’ve had someone pay for me going through the tolls before, something so little but so sweet. So of course, I do that all the time now, or pay for someone’s food in the morning drive-thru’s. But to have a big dinner picked up like that, is so unexpected and sweet!

  24. Glad you are enjoying your trip. I remember the first time I saw Lake Huron outside my in-laws home, I told them point blank, "that is NOT a lake, it's too big to be a lake, it looks like the ocean!" LOL What a sweet thing for that couple to do.

  26. What a gift!

For the first time since I moved away from home for college I have a piano again, thanks to my sweet husband who tracked one down for me. I was so excited I blogged and facebooked all about it. Two days later I got a call that someone had paid to have it tuned for me. I still have no idea who gave me the gift, but every time I sit down to play or watch my girls bang out a tune I am grateful.

  36. Love all these trip pictures...and your boy is too cute! What a sweet gesture from that couple...maybe you reminded them of themselves when they first got together? I pay for the person behind me at the Starbucks drive-thru everytime. I'm always panicked some day it will be a person making the run for his entire office! :)
