{Loving} Color

{via- complete home tour here}

How's that for some Tuesday inspiration? {I think we all needed that after last night's horribly upsetting episode of the Bachelor! Are you with me?!}
While surfing none other than House Beautiful, I found some delightful images I knew I needed to share. What was it about these interiors that I loved oh-so-much? The color and textures! I also love that I'm not normally drawn to spaces with the least bit of clutter, and yet I adore both the bookcases and desk space. I'd call that stylish-clutter {now you're all asking yourself if you can justify your desk area ;) }...and any bulletin board with that much inspiration pinned up is a winner if you ask me!

What's your favorite element in these spaces?!
Love,
Photobucket
PS. The winner of the Twirl headband giveaway is #16, Jessica of A Day in the Life of the Crimella's. Hooray! I will email you today to get you your prize :)

Spread the Love

Hi friends! I'm very excited today because me and a few of my favorite blog pals are hoping to start a movement of kindness.  Since the month of love is just around the corner, I'm teaming up with Anna of In Honor of Design and Megan of Mackey Madness to hopefully encourage our readers to find fun and creative ways to spread the love this week! You may remember we did this last year, too. It was so encouraging and inspiring to read about all the different ways people showed kindness to others. Because the blogosphere is such an awesome, supportive community, what better place to start a movement?! If each of us do something intentionally kind this week, just think of how many people we could touch.

Here are a few ways to join in...

-Strike up a conversation with someone and ask how their day is.  They'll feel important!
-Go through a drive-thru and pay for the person's food behind you.
-Give a homeless person a gift card to get food.
-Leave a sweet note on someone's car in a parking lot.
-Mail your old a friend an encouraging letter.
-By flowers for your neighbor or friend.
-Send out a text telling your friends and family how much you love and appreciate them.
-Pay for the person's starbucks' behind you. (I just put 5 dollars on a gift card and give it to the cashier and tell them to let the person a few folks behind me use it.)
-Simply smile at the person who you pass in the mall. They'll be caught off guard.
-Offer to get groceries for your mom.
-Let that person pull out from the parking lot and get in front of you on the road.
-Call your grandma!
-Buy something simple for a friend or loved one...just because
-Do a random act of kindness that you get no recognition for, but brighten someone else's day.

Be creative! And we want to hear about it :) Next Monday {February 6th} Megan, over at Mackey Madness, will be holding a link up party where we are able to write a post about what we did and link it up for others to read. Let's see how many people can spread kindness this week.
Ready.Set.Go.

We hope you'll join us in spreading the love. Leave your ideas of what to do in the comments!
Happy Monday
Love,

{Fashion Friday} 1 Look, 3 Ways

::one::
No Heat Curls Tutorial found here.

::two::

::three::

Sweater: B.P. Nordstrom
Jeans: Vigoss
Leather Jacket: Nordstrom
Blazer: B.P Nordstrom
Skirt: Nordstrom
Tall Boots: Steve Madden; Cowgirl Boots: Dillards; Flats: Steve Madden
Scarf: Nordstrom
Sunglasses: Anthropologie (only $5)
{Okay...so I kind of like Nordstrom;) }

I'm really trying to budget my money better lately, and one way I'm doing that is by mixing and matching outfits! Clearly it would be obvious if I wore the three outfits above one day after another, but spacing them out a few weeks apart would be doable :)
Remember that one goal of mine for 2012?
Start investing in clothing. This means I want to buy less clothing, but I want the clothes I do buy to be of good quality- lasting me for a while!
These outfits are me trying to mix my staple items (blazer, leather jacket, boots} with other less expensive and fun pieces.

I'm also really keen on the color red right now. I've never really experimented with red in my wardrobe, but let me tell ya...I'm likin' it.  I'm liking it so much that I may have bought a red lipstick the other day to be friends with the red sweater. What can I say? It was calling my name.  I just couldn't resist.

Do you have any pieces in your wardrobe that you mix and match? Which look out of the above 3 is your favorite?
Have a great weekend!
Love,

She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not: Twenty Three Oh One

Today we have the pleasure of hearing from one of my favorite new (to me) bloggers, Katy, from Twenty Three Oh One
Katy has to be one of the kindest, most genuine girls I've met in blogland. I first fell in love with her house during the holidays when she knocked her Christmas Decor out of the park! Her home is beautiful, she is darling and I'm so excited to see more of her design endeavors as her family grows! Let's hear what she's loving and what she's not...
***

Hi! I'm Katy, the blogger behind Twenty Three Oh One. I am SO very thankful that Michaela has asked me to participate in her "She Loves Me" guest series today! Isn't she the sweetest girl with the most adorable blog?
Here is a little list of what I'm absolutely loving (and absolutely not loving) right now:

She Loves Me
1. Rainy Days
Source: imgfave.com via Julie on Pinterest

Oh man, do I love rainy days. And oh man, do I miss them! Living in west Texas and experiencing the worst drought in the last century is no picnic. I can promise you that. What I wouldn't give to wake up to the sound of rain falling! Ahhhhh....I can only imagine :).

2. Striped Tote Bags
Source: etsy.com via Katy on Pinterest

If you've ever read my blog you'll know that I'm a sucker for stripes in home decor. These striped bags are no exception. I  cannot begin to explain how much I am obsessing over this bag. And this one. This one too. So casual and modern! Enough said.

3. Cute outfit combos for little boys
I've spent my entire life immersed in the world of women's fashion and never knew just how adorable clothes in "boy world" can be....until I found out I was expecting one! You better believe that my sweet baby boy (who I will hopefully meet in about 14 weeks!) will be rocking cute little get-ups like the ones above. All from The Gap, of course. I tell you what, Baby Gap and Gap Kids will be a budget breaker here in the next few years. I'm okay with it, though. :)

4. Prayer with Purpose
Source: etsy.com via Katy on Pinterest

I've been thinking a lot about being more intentional with my life, but until today, it never dawned on me that I should be more intentional with my prayer life. One of my friends mentioned a link to this blog post on Facebook. It's called 31 Days of Praying for Your Husband. I thought it was really interesting to spend each day praying for a specific part of your husband's life and well being. It's a great reminder that prayer is supposed to be a selfless act!

5. Two Toned Cabinets
{sources found here}

I am hoping to paint the lower half of my currently all white kitchen cabinets sometime this year...but we will see how that goes. ;) Now to decide what color to use! Blue-gray, green-gray, blue-green, cream, ecru...the options are endless. (and overwhelming!)

She Loves Me Not
1. Sunday Night Blues

Blah. Sunday nights are without a doubt my least favorite time of the week, especially when the weekend has been crazy and not the least bit relaxing. I always try to have a good attitude about having a fresh start to a brand new week, but sometimes I would rather get one more day off, you know?

2. The "I don't know what to do with my life" feeling you get after finishing a great book.

Getting lost in a good book is one of the best methods of kicking back in my opinion, but finishing that last page is such a depressing feeling. Without fail, I will get upset upon finishing a book because I feel like my new friends are ditching me to go on with their more interesting and exciting lives. Apparently I have attachment issues.... ;)

3. Living far away from family

Don't get me wrong, my husband and I love our little town and the relationships that we have made here, but it seems to get harder and harder to be away from our families. I hope to be back near them someday, but for now, I try to find happiness in the thought that being far away makes those family vacations and trips home so much more special.

If you get a chance, stop by my blog to say hi! Thanks again for having me, Michaela!

Thanks, Katy! I'm loving the two-toned cabinets!! And being away from family is hard, but you're right- time with them is much more special :)
Now go check out Twenty Three Oh One and tell Katy hello. Don't forget to check out her adorable office-in-a-closet makeover. What a genius this girl is!

What are you loving this week?
Happy Wednesday!
Love,

PS. Welcome to my sponsor the Ravenna Girls!
Brianne and Danielle are two spunky girls who love crafts, decorating, design and everything in between. They live in Seattle and I can vouch for them in saying they are really awesome  {I met them in person!} Stop by for some design inspiration and get to know the girls.

A DIY for a Rainy Day

This past week I found the cutest umbrella paper at Meadow Boutique! I can't pass up a darling printed craft paper, so of course it came home with me. I knew I could put it to good use on a rainy day...what with the umbrellas and all :) Lately I have been dreaming of a small tray to place on my dresser. I just love the way a tray can make a couple of things on a dresser turn into the perfect vignette.  I knew this umbrella paper would be the icing on the cake to the new small white tray I picked up at West Elm. Just the right amount of color and pattern!
Here's how I did it...

SUPPLIES:
Tray, paper, scissors, tape, tape measure.

Step 1: Measure the tray, then measure the paper out.

Step 2: Cut out the paper!

Step 3: I used rolled pieces of tape to adhere the paper to the tray.  Just in case I want to change the paper out at a later date {you know, when I don't live in the city where it rains 9 months out of the year!}, this was a good and very easy way to preserve the tray.

Final Product:

I also framed a piece of the paper and used a white board marker to write some of my favorite lyrics! On the tray is a Anthropologie bowl, frame and ice cream sundae cup adorned with some jewelry.

This was such a simple and quick little DIY!
  Have you done any DIY projects lately? Do share in the comments!

**My amazing photographer friend Tori of Victoria Carlson Photography took all these beautiful photos for me...aren't they lovely?! Tori and I will be teaming up to bring you lots more loveliness. Be sure to check out her awesome photo blog. If you're looking for a photographer in the Seattle area...she's your girl**
