As promised, yesterday I showed you our Fall mantel and today I'm back with a little DIY project using the color everyone is obsessed with. Yes, gold. As I stood there looking at our mantel upon completion of the decor, I knew it needed a little something....well, sparkly. Enter my favorite embellishment ever, gold leaf detailing. Below is a step by step tutorial on how to create your own DIY Gold Leaf Pumpkins. It's extremely simple!
Materials: pumpkins, gold leaf kit (this normally comes with a liquid glue. If not, Elmer's really will work), two paint brushes.
Step 1: Paint your design in the glue on the pumpkin. Allow to dry for a few minutes to get tacky.
Step 2: Lay a big chunk of gold leaf over the damp glue. Using the second paint brush (make sure it's dry), brush away the extra gold leaf, leaving only the gold leaf that adhered to the glue. This will reveal your design on the pumpkin. Stripes, dots or an ombre effect seem to work really well.
Step 3: Repeat the above steps and finish!
To see our entire Fall mantel, head to yesterday's post! I loved this look so much I may even do our pumpkins that are sitting on the porch. My dad might not love that idea, though ;)
What do you think about gold leafing? Yay or nay?
Happy Fall Decorating!

Very pretty Michaela! I have not tried gold leaf yet. You make it look easy so I may need to give it my first try on a pumpkin!
