In My Makeup Bag: Makeup Favorites

A few months back, I talked openly about my skincare struggles, routine, makeup and more.  Today I wanted to just talk about makeup and all my favorite products as of lately. I'm not one to really love makeup, take a ton of time to put it on or anything like that, but I do like how my face looks once it's all on there. I think for me, it's more of a hassle to do, but I always do it and rarely leave the house without it on. Who else is like that?

My makeup routine takes me about 10 minutes in the morning. After washing my face (I use this scrub three times a week) I then apply the basics:
Smashbox primer, Dermalogica moisturizer, Covergirl concealer, and Jane Iredale powder (I use "suntan" in the spring/summer.)

Next I do my under eye "fake up" by Benefit (sometimes I do this under the powder…just depends! Either way I'm obsessed with it, because it covers under eye circles like no other), and then dab on a tiny touch of Bare Minerals well-rested under eye illuminator. I finish with blush.

For the eyes, I am extremely simple. I never wear eye shadow (unless it's a special occasion!) Here's my routine:
Almay eggplant colored eyeliner for the bottom (this brings out blue/green eyes, like mine.)
Mac black eyeliner for the top lid
1 coat of Clinique mascara
1 coat of Bare Minerals mascara

Lips are my favorite to play with! I love color on my lips, but always start with vaseline or a minty balm to hydrate. Here's my lip favorites (from left to right):
Smith's Rosebud Salve (the BEST thing ever)
Estee Lauder gloss in Pink Kiss
Bare Minerals Moxie in Heartbreaker
Benefit Hydrating Lip Color in Talk Flirty
Mac Lipstick in Sunny Seoul

That's it! Face, cheeks, eyes, lips…all in under 10 minutes. What's your routine and what are some of your fave products?! I'm always looking for an eyeliner that PROMISES not to smear onto my lid. This Mac one I use is okay, but still gets in my crease. Does anyone else have that problem? Talk to me :)

Happy Tuesday!

Homemade Facial

Because of the direction of my blog, I've been thinking a lot lately. My blog isn't primarily a fashion blog, {and there are tons of amazing fashion blogs out there!} I think I'm going to start taking Fashion Friday in a new direction. I'll still be doing some outfit posts, but just not every Friday. Ya know, to keep you guessing (: I hope that's okay!

Today, I'm mixing it up. And I mean that quite literally.
I recently came across a recipe to make your own at home facial, so I gave it a whirl! Here's what you need:

1 Banana
1 tspn Honey
A pinch of lemon or lime

First, wash your face! I swear by dermalogica. This is their basic face wash:

Then, mix up your ingredients:

oh yum....

Next, apply the mask.  This picture will remain small for obvious reasons! This is far past embarrassing, but how could I not post the picture of the end result?! It's definitely less terrifying in black and white. And don'tcha worry, the chunks are bananas...not skin issues!
can we still be friends? (:

I could only stand to leave my on for around 5-8 minutes because of the weird texture, but when I washed it off, let me tell ya...my face was as soft as a baby bootie.

I finished off my face with a moisturizer and this awesome spot treatment. It's a sulfur cream that you put on blemishes over night and it totally helps clear up the problem areas. Life saver!

So, that's how I spent my Thursday evening (:  Give it a try!

Do you know any other at home facial recipes? Do tell!
Happy weekend, loves! What are you doing? I'm super excited to share a few things next week I've been working on lately.
Love,

Hair. Make up. Camera. Action!

A few weeks ago, my hair dresser, Lindsay, asked me to do a photo shoot for her to show off some of her amazing hair styling talents!! I already loved her, but after our day together, I loved her even more.  I felt like a princess: she brushed my hair, curled it, did my makeup.  The whole nine yards.  My kinda day (:  Because frankly, I love playing dress up.  I also had the privileged of meeting Lindsay's friend, Jay, who took the pictures for the shoot.  He's so talented!  And he had just bought a totally cool new camera, so it was double the fun.  Here are some of the pictures from the shoot!

How amazing is this updo? WOW.  She will do my hair for my wedding (:

Love this style!  And it's easy to do!  Just a diagonal side french braid with a messy bun at the end.  Sometimes I do a pony tail at the end, too. You can see my version of it here.

French braid headband.  Start at one side of your ear and add in hair all the way to the other ear.  Looks like a headband made of hair!

If you ever need a photographer, e-mail Jay at movingfloorward@yahoo.com
And if you want your hair to look BEAUTIFUL, e-mail Lindsay at lindsaydabalos@yahoo.com.  They're great, I promise!

Happy weekend!
