By Wisdom a House is Built...

My grandma sent me this verse she found painted on a canvas a few months ago {from a magazine or something} and I immediately fell in love.  I knew I needed to paint it for myself and get it in my room ASAP. I worked on the painting while I was home in California this last weekend.  I adapted the verse a bit and added the last part myself. It's so true of how I want my home to be and feel and look- lovely, full of treasures and overflowing with joy and peace. Yes. Don't we all want that? For me, that's the essence of why I design...to create those very feelings.

You may be wondering why the background is peach and gray. It doesn't exactly go with my room colors now. Well, that's because as soon as our road trip from Seattle to California is over and I'm settled back at home, I'm getting started immediately on my new room design. Think: mint and peach and white and a gallery wall full of architectural prints. In my mind, it is beautiful. I can't wait to get started. This painting will take center-stage as a reminder to me as to why I do what I do.

So today I challenge you to fill your home and heart with treasures.
Happy Thursday!

She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not: A Creative Day

It's Wednesday which means I get to share another fabulous blogger with you! Meet Eileen from A Creative Day
Eileen went to school for architecture and works as an interior designer {yay!} She is sweet and oh-so-creative. Her home is gorgeous, inspiring and full of life- I knew I needed to ask her over here on the blog to share her style with you. I know you'll enjoy her loves and love-me-nots! Take it away, friend!

Hi sweet readers, I'm Eileen from A Creative Day and I was thrilled when Michaela asked me to be part of her series.  Its one of my favorite series in the blogging world, and I'm so happy to be sharing what I'm loving and not loving these days.

She Loves Me:
1. Kilim.

I'm pinching pennies right now to save up for a beauty like this one from Amber's Shoppe..

2.Shoe it Off
Its so much more fun to display all your pretty shoes rather then hide them in the back of the closet don't you think?

3. Black Out
I know it seems like a small detail, but I am so drawn to black window and door casements. It adds such drama.

4. Solid
Now don't get me wrong, I love an abstract piece of art as much as the next person, but right now I am loving the graphic punch a solid canvas can bring to a room. I'm thinking of doing a huge 5' x 5' one for my long hallway.

5. Stripes with a maxi
Total staple in my wardrobe.

6. Messy Top Knot
Also a staple.

She Loves Me Not:
1. Not understanding my camera.
I recently bought a nice camera and my goal this summer is to learn how to use it!

2. Comparison
I'm sure everyone has seen the 'Things I'm Afraid to Tell You" movement that has been sweeping the blogsphere, and the best thing about the movement to me is that we have all realized that we don't have it all together and we can all encourage each other to stay true to ourselves.

Thanks so much for having me Michaela!
xoxo

Thank you for sharing, girl! I'm also adoring the different ways to show off shoes...and that bun is perfect for summer {or any time of year, really!}
Be sure to stop by A Creative Day to say hello to Eileen :)

Happy Wednesday! What are YOU loving this week?

Go Green?

All images via House Beautiful

I'm seeing a whole lot of green popping up in design lately. Of course we're all loving the minty and seafoam green colors, but what about the other hues? I happen to like the color in moderation...I think it's refreshing, energizing and a little bit spunky. It's a fresh pop of color among a sea of neutrals!

So, are you going green in any space in your home?
Hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend! Have a wonderful Tuesday :)

Celebrating a Big Weekend

This past weekend was great- so many things to celebrate! My brother graduated high school and later that night played in his last baseball game- the league championship.  We are a HUGE baseball family {my grandpa played in the major leagues!} so this was quite exciting.  His team won and he got the winning 2 RBI's with a great hit! I am such a proud sister, so excuse my bragging :)  He is a wonderful brother and I'm so glad I was able to see his last game.  I grew up watching my little brother play baseball and have always loved it. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing him loving the game...and being a stud while playing :)
Due to the craziness of the weekend, today's post will be a picture recap of our many festivities...

The whole family {& yep, my mom is wearing colored denim:) }

Baseball time!

Pretty flowers for the house for the grad party. Trader Joe's has the prettiest peonies in stock right now. I'm shocked at how beautifully they are opening up!

Oh, this girl has been by my side all weekend...can't get enough!

Congrats, Colin! I love you more than anything and am so proud of the awesome man you are becoming. God has so many wonderful things for your life...I just know it.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend and have an awesome Memorial Day remembering those who have served and are serving our country. How blessed we are to have those men and women. Thank you just isn't enough.
Enjoy your day off...I'm off shopping with my sweet mama:)

This weekend is going to be a whirlwind with lots of graduation festivities and watching Colin's last baseball game- but a great weekend, and one I have been looking forward to for a while.
