Coastal-Inspired Twin Nursery Reveal

I can't believe the day is finally here! I get to share our twin boys' nursery with you! Now, it might not look like a twin room yet, because there's only one crib. But we're going to try having them sleep in the same crib at first. Safety wise, it's totally fine to do this until they start rolling, but we'll see how long they last. The second crib could be in the room when they're a week old! We're going to learn as we go ;)
I love how the room came together; it's truly a dream come true! I wanted to create a soothing, coastal-inspired nursery that we would love being in, just as much as the babies. I knew I wanted to do a wall treatment, so my husband installed the board and batten. It elevates the otherwise very standard room so much! Next, I wanted a rug that looked like water and that would be durable. Other than all the baby must-haves, I also wanted to decorate with classic-looking coastal elements.

Since we have a really small room, we opted for mini cribs. Once we need it, the second crib will fit right along this same wall under the sea animal prints!

I knew I wanted to play with pattern a bit in the room and I just love how classically sweet gingham is (especially for little boys!), so I went with this custom gray and white gingham crib skirt. I did custom off etsy because the options are VERY minimal for mini crib skirts elsewhere.

Mixing the more organic pattern on the rug with the geometric nature of the skirt plays so nicely together. We also did a windowpane pattern for the curtains, which nods back to the crib skirt, but on a larger scale.

I love the ocean prints we found on etsy so much! They're watercolor, so they look really high end.

When I saw this woven sailboat online, I knew I wanted it for the nursery! It's just the cutest!!

The mirror is another coastal nod, and I was so pleased to have found it at the price I did. It's a Serena & Lily dupe ;)

Shelves hang above the glider so I could put some decor up on the walls. I love this bible verse print! The blocks are turned around right now, but they have their names engraved on them. I can't wait to show you once they're here!

We originally had a different rocker for in the nursery, but when it arrived, we decided to keep it in the living room since it's a recliner and my husband liked it out there ;) So we got this one for the nursery and I'm so glad we did. I actually like that it only glides and swivels. It was only $250 and is such great quality!!

Before this was a nursery, it was my husband's office, so we had the roller shades on the windows already. They are great, we love them! But for two reasons, I wanted to get some curtains in here as well. 1. For style-- it's the best way to add height to your room! And 2. Roller shades have about 1/4" of a "light gap" around the sides, so even though the shades are blackout, some light still does come in.

We had these blackout curtains custom made and now when both the roller shade and the curtains are drawn, it's truly blacked out! I think it'll make their sleep a lot better. I'm also just in love with the pattern and texture of them!

Ocean Inspired Twin Boy Nursery Design Plan

In case you missed it, we're having twin BOYS in early summer of 2023! I'm currently 26 weeks, so we've been getting the nursery started over the last couple of weeks and I'm finally here to share the whole design plan with you!
Since I'm from California and love the ocean, and my husband grew up going to Lake Michigan and loves the water, we decided on an ocean inspired look for the babies' room. I didn't want anything too "themed" or "baby", but rather something that would flow well with the rest of the house and a style that we could add some sweet baby things to, while still staying classic. 
The first step-- what we've been working on for the last two weeks-- is installing board and batten, painting it white, then painting the walls above it a light shade of blue/green/gray. The board and batten is done and now I just need to decide on a color for the top! Our rug came in a few days ago, so I'm checking samples with that to see what would flow nicely. The rug looks like water, which is exactly what I wanted!

I found these beautiful watercolor sea life / coastal art prints on Etsy and I'm so excited about them. We'll put them over the cribs. I also found the sweetest ocean mobile that I can't wait to see hung above the cribs! This sailboat shelf is one of the cutest things I've ever seen. It'll be hung on one of the walls. Sure, it doesn't hold much, but it's more about the look than the function in this case ;)
In order to give the room the ocean/coastal vibe I wanted, we are mixing finishes in the furniture and accessories. The light wood tones found in the dresser (ahh!!! LOVE it!), the frames, mirror and storage baskets will add some warmth and that coastal feel to the room, especially because the board and batten around the room is white. I love how the cribs have a touch of the light wood at the feet, too!
The things I still need to decide on and order are:+ curtains (samples are arriving this week)+ crib skirts (slightly tougher for us because we got mini cribs, so I have to get custom ones made on etsy. Samples should be here this week or next.)+ floating shelves and some other little accessories (I'm thinking of getting 3 of these hooks for behind the door :))

So that's what we've got for now on the nursery! I'm so excited to see it all come together. I'm SO thankful my husband is so handy so he could do all the work to the room. I think he might be nesting just as much as me ;)

Client Reveal: Wallpapered Powder Bath & Bold Nursery

A couple weeks ago I showed you one of my recent design projects, complete with a green kitchen. We started in the kitchen and living room and now today I'm back showing you glimpses at the rest of the house! We're starting in the powder room on the main floor, moving to the master bedroom, a couple guest rooms, then heading to the kids bath and nursery. This nursery is such a great room! It was so fun to design and see come together. I love that this family wasn't afraid of bold color. Scroll down to see for yourself!
First up, the powder room! Give me ALL of this wallpaper! I am so happy a client was bold enough to go with wallpaper. This one is such a subtle design, from one of my favorite stores to source from. Everything is so classic and beautifully done. I think they'll love this for years to come! And since it's a powder bath, it's a small enough room to be okay with changing in 10 or so years if they grow tired of the pattern. I would put this in a whole bedroom if I could :)

Master Bedroom
This room is serene, light, airy, with a touch of blues and golds to bring in hues from the lake outside. Eventually, this back wall will be wallpapered in this gorgeous textured textile (in color Cactus). I will of course be snapping updated photos once this is done! It's really going to make the bedding and colors in our custom pillows pop.

Guest Rooms:
They have two guest rooms upstairs, so here's a peek at both of them. I love how simple and sweet they, each designed with both sets of grandparent's in mind.

Laundry Room:
Another great spot to play with pattern is your laundry room, like these fun floors!

The kid's bath upstairs is so cute. Another fun, yet subtle, flooring paired with pretty serene greens and grays and popped with an adorable art print above the towels.

Nursery:
This is one of my favorite nurseries because of how different it is! Don't get me wrong, I love me a neutral, light space, but I think this is such a great change of pace. When I proposed a vintage automobile, boat and car themed room, this family lit up and were so glad to find a design inspiration they agreed on! They love traveling, so including a big map as art was a no-brainer.
