Client Renovation Progress

Hope you had a great weekend! I visited a client's house Saturday quickly to snap some progress pictures of their house before they move in their stuff this week. This home has come a longggg way! They bought the home from the husband's parents and everything was original to when the house was built. It's on tons of beautiful land and works so well for this family (a couple with two boys!) We brought it down to the studs and redid every square inch from drywall, flooring, paint, a whole new kitchen, etc. It is so beautiful now and I'm excited to give you a peek!

Remember, these are just progress shots. Not everything is quite done and things will still be cleaned up quite a bit before they move in next week :)
Here is the big family room. We kept the existing corner fireplace but totally refinished it with the german schmear technique. It got a new mantel, new fireplace insert, and all new floors throughout. We opened these walls on either side of the fireplace to allow for a more open floor plan.

Right off the great room is the kitchen which has gorgeous new custom cabinets, a beautifully stained island and pretty quartz + backsplash. I'm in love with how this backsplash turned out!

Right off the kitchen is a step down to the old sun screened in sun porch. It was all dark wood paneling, so we painted it all white and this will be the new dining room! I can't wait to see our custom farm table in this room. It's a whopping 9' long :)

In this picture you can see the kitchen to the left, the builtin breakfast nook seating to the right and through the center is the dining room from the above picture.

This is the view out to the mudroom entry. These builtins will come in so handy with two little boys and all their stuff! To the right of this picture is the main floor bathroom.

Moving on to the main floor master bedroom. We painted it Coventry Gray and love how itt turned out. Such a cool chandelier, too!

The master bathroom is one of the biggest transformation and when I show you before and afters in another post, you might actually lose your mind ;) This shower came out SO beautifully! Can't wait to see it with the huge Euro glass door on it.

The master has two sinks, custom cabinetry, quartz countertops, and a great shiplap feature wall. We reconfigured this whole space, as there used to be a door where the right sink was that led out to the kitchen. We removed that so this became truly a master bathroom.

Upstairs are three bedrooms. This one is the boys' room! I can't get enough of that little shiplap reading nook with the sconces. A bookshelf and bean bags will be going in there shortly!

Here's the upstairs bathroom. We kept the existing cabinetry, but they got a fresh coat of paint, new countertops, new flooring, new mirror and lighting.

This is one of my favorite parts of the whole house!! The mudroom entrance is where the family will typically enter the house, so the floor needed to be durable (because Michigan winters!) but we also wanted it to be a statement. It turned out amazing, and I'm so happy we went with this ceramic hexagon!

Not Such a Magic Carpet

Finally I'm getting around to revealing our finished family room.  Right in time, too, as our house is up on the market today! Instead of placing things in the room to feel cozy, we placed things to sell. Staging a home to sell is quite the task, but that's another whole blog post!
Today I'm showing you our family room before and after. Because we all love those (:


Before...carpet and white walls:

After...carpet is a goner and warm carmel colored walls:


We picked this color by bringing our Pottery Barn curtains to Home Depot. We brought 2 samples home of colors we thought would work, painted 3 small patches in different parts of the room {always good to test in different lights}, then chose our fave.  This color is a great match with the curtain panels.

Shasta is always the center of attention. She can't help herself (:

We're loving our new Pottery Barn Adeline rug:

Our bowl of lemons and limes add a summery and colorful touch:

Overall, we're really enjoying the carpet being gone. It worked no magic in that room. But our new rug sure does! The room looks so much larger...don'tcha think? And the color on the wall really pops the crown molding and pulls the whole look together. Hopefully the changes made will help entice buyers to make a little purchase (:

Painted Bottles

This is our bathroom:

See that blank spot by outlet on the wall?  We needed to fix that.  So I decided to paint some bottles.  It was fun, easy and was totally the missing piece to our bathroom puzzle!

The breakdown:

1. Took bottles with a nice shape like this one:

2. Remove labels, wash 'em out and dry 'em.

3. Use puff paint to do designs on the bottles, then let the paint dry for about 1-2 hours:

Big graphics, easily recognizable designs like flowers, hearts or swirls are best.  For the holidays, snowmen, snowflakes and Christmas trees would be perfect! Make sure to get enough puff paint on the bottle.  Thick dots will show up a lot better!

4.  Spray paint the bottles.  I did 2 coats, just to make sure I didn't miss a spot!

This bottle is the delicious Trader Joes Sparkling Pink Lemonade.  It's my favorite drink. Of all time.

I did three different bottles of mixed shapes and sizes to provide variety and add more interest to the corner.  If you're ever having trouble when setting up a corner, mantle, shelf etc.-- remember, always decorate (& flower arrange, for that matter) in vignettes of threes or fives...or any odd number, really.  Three was perfect for this counter area.  Just enough to cover the ugly duckling wall outlet.  Actually, I take that statement back--I like the outlet, and need it really, for without it, I couldn't do my hair in the morning. And that's important, right?!

Then I got some beautiful Dahlia's from Trader Joes (while I was there to pick up more pink lemonade).

And...the final product!

I love this project because it's simple, fun, inexpensive ($5 for spray paint), could go anywhere, could be any color, and provides a lot of texture for any space!
