Last weekend on my vacation to Newport Beach, California, we stopped at the beach for a while. Perfect photo opportunity for my next Fashion Friday, right? I thought so until I realized I was wearing the same sweater that was featured last week. BUT the good thing is, now you can see how you can dress up and dress down the very same sweater (: I love the small lace and frilly details.
Here's what I'm wearing:
Sweater: Anthropologie, only $40 on sale!
Jeans: Vigoss
Headband: Whippy Cake. You know the drill.
Want some great beachy curls? And want to learn how I get mine to stay all day?
I divide my hair into 4 sections (my hair is extremely thick!) Starting from the bottom, I take a one inch section and curl the hair starting at the bottom and wrapping it around the rod, like this:
except, I start at the bottom layer. |
After I hold the curl for around 8 seconds on the rod, I coil it up how in the same way comes off the rod and pin it like this to my head:
That way it cools in the position you want it to stay in when it's out of the bobby pin. |
After I'm done with all the layers, I go back and take out all the pins and run my fingers through the hair. If I'm running late, I'll just coil the top layer, so I know for sure that layer will stay nice and curled all day. Then I lightly mist my hair with my favorite Aveda hairspray to finish.
Here's some hairspray tips:
Thick/coarse hair? Just sprits at the end for a finishing touch
Fine/thin hair? Hairspray before to add texture and after to help it hold
If your hair doesn't hold a curl very well, the worst thing you can do is douse it in hairspray. The weight of the hairspray will pull it out! The best thing for you to do is to wash your hair the night before and let it air dry so it's not as fine as it would be if you blew it dry. Curl will always hold better if your hair isn't freshly washed and dried!
Here are some beachy waves I'm loving:

Hope that helps!
Happy Friday! What are you doing this weekend?
Love and Fashion Friday,
Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog! I am getting a new curling iron soon, so I can't wait to try this look! Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteyour hair is always perfection.
ReplyDeletelove love that sweater. the back detail is amazing.
Great pictures Michaela!! And, it doesn't matter "what" you do with your hair...it always looks great!!
ReplyDeleteGirl you have beautiful hair!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the tutorial. I have never thought to pin the curl in place to let it 'cool', that may be one of the reasons why I can never get my hair to curl right!
Also thanks for the tip on what to do if hair doesn't hold a curl because overall that IS my biggest issue. It never holds. Going to be trying your tips for sure! :)
I have tried and tried to get my hair to look like that and I can't do it! Maybe I'll give it another shot this weekend!
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit! And I'm a big fan of beachy curls! I tend to use my straightener since I only have a 1/2" curling iron, but I'm planning on picking up a larger one soon. What size did you use here? 1"?
ReplyDeleteyou're so cute! I'm so glad you gave that little tutorial because I was just about to ask how you do your hair! THANKS :D
ReplyDeleteI like the pinning idea, I'll have to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous weekend!
XO
I love this. I have super fine hair, so I'll be trying these! Your curls look awesome!
ReplyDeletegreat hair inspiration pics! i love doing relaxed waves when i have the time. normally i go for the carefree air-dry look, though :)
ReplyDeleteI love the beachy waves look! I also really really love the beach and sort of wish I was there right now. (:
ReplyDeleteNot doing a whole lot this weekend... Colorado cooled off today, so I'm trying to keep warm.
My hair does not hold curl, but it doesn't keep from trying! Thanks for the great tips.
ReplyDeleteIf I bring you Panera, will you curl my hair? And also do those side braids? I have NO hair skills! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday girlie! :)xo!
Lauren @ tickled.
Oh, I need to pin mine to make them last longer!! I like. It's my favorite way to wear hair. Adorable as always.
ReplyDeleteToo cute. I totally forgot about the pinning technique. This is the perfect hair style for me since I greatly prefer night showers than morning ones. Maybe I'll try this weekend.
ReplyDeleteMy hair will never look like yours. Ever. I give up.
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE Reese. She is totally my favorite. :) :)
ReplyDeleteExcept for you, of course! LOL
Um, and your hair is ah-mah-zing. Like, always. Jealous!
XOXO,
Jenna
You are so super cute! Thanks for the hair tips- I'm totally gonna try that! Oh- and you were about 15 minutes from my hometown :) I grew up in Rowland Heights, CA and went to CSUF! My mom still lives out there - she's in Tustin now :) Orange County rocks!
ReplyDeleteHow funny...I totally tried a "beachy waves" look today for the first time since cutting my hair...and I'm just now seeing your post! What a coincidence! XO, Katie
