Well, hellllooo! I've had quite the weekend. Remember I told you we were going to rip up the family room carpet? We did it! And the hardwood underneath the carpet looks brand new.
We initially put in carpet in the family room {adjacent to kitchen} for when my brother and I were little and when we first got my puppy. Silly girl was sliding all over the place. We're all older now and thankfully can all handle walking on hardwood floor (; It's not that we didn't enjoy the carpet, it's just that it was getting old and dirty and I'm pretty sure no Stanley Steamer could make our carpet any cleaner. {You're welcome for making you sing that commercial in your head while you read that(: }
My fam figured it was time for the update.
Here's the room before...with carpet:
Here's during the process...my dad and brother hard at work:
And here's me- yep, gettin' down and dirty.
I spent 2 hours in this position using a wrench to pull out over 100 staples from the hardwood. Then we went around filling each nail/staple hole with wood putty {found at Home Depot...works wonders!}
The hardest part was ripping up the metal piece that fused the hardwood to the carpet at the entrance to the kitchen. Another toughie was getting those 2 inch wood strips with lots of nails sticking up outta there! You may be thinking, wow Michaela, you must have broken a sweat doing that! Don't let me fool you: I was at the kitchen table drinking a Snapple watching my dad do those parts. That's how it's done, ladies.
Want to see the end result? Well, you're going to have to stay tuned! I just ordered this rug from Pottery Barn and we're anxiously awaiting it's arrival:
After it's in, it'll be nice and cozy and I'll do the final reveal.
PS. I'm also painting the family room this weekend. Probably going with a nice carmel color to bring out the richness in the curtains. Busy me!
Have you been working on any DIY projects around your home lately? If not, what's your favorite project you've seen around Blogland recently? Do share(:
Come on back tomorrow for some hilarious little treasures I found from when I was younger!
Have a wonderful Monday
