When you walk through the living room, you're in the kitchen and dining room. You'll see the dining are is pretty long-- a lot more space than we have now! They redid the floor in here and did a pretty gray tile, so we'll be keeping that.
We've got a lot of space down at the slider area of the room to work with, so I'm trying to figure out what I want to do there. My first thought is a pair of chairs, lamp, plant and make it a reading nook. My grandma suggested making it my office area with my desk facing out the window. I'll have to play around with it!
Now for the kitchen! It's not huge, but it's totally workable! We will be painting the cabinets white, which I can't wait for. I think it's going to transform the room completely and make it feel more open! Another thing I want to work on is what is going on to cover the bulkhead. I don't love what they did, which was cover it with metal sheets. I think it could be cool and industrial if that's your style, but it's not really ours ;) I'm hoping to be able to replace the metal/silver parts with white. Hopefully I can just paint it to match the other trim. (If you're curious, they probably did this detailing to cover pipes in the bulkhead.)
They definitely had a professional do this backsplash as it's really well done! So thankful for that.
I happened to find cupboards that are almost an identical match to the lowers, so we already ordered those.
This is the main floor full bath (we also have 1 half bath and then another full bath in the basement. ALL THE PRAISE HANDS!) This vanity is extremely low to the ground-- you might be able to tell that there's not even a toe kick...the vanity is sitting right on the floor. So we're going to rip this out and install a new, very simple vanity and countertop. The one I found came with the sinks, so it was a great deal! We'll also change out the faucets, mirror and lighting. We don't love the floor, but it's something we can live with. It's a gray square tile (I just wish the grout line wasn't so thick ;))
Here's one spare room that'll be my husband's office:
This is the second space room which will be the guest room and my office, if we can get it all to fit. The closet is pretty large, so I'm super thankful for that!
This is our bedroom. Not a true "master" because it doesn't have an attached bathroom, but we're going to make it work. It's on the small side, but our stuff will fit and I'm definitely rearranging where the furniture will go (I couldn't handle a bed not centered on a window, ha!)
Here's the basement. It's pretty much a blank slate. They drywalled which is great, but we will install carpet on the far side of the room for the rec / tv area. We'll also probably paint the ceiling black to make the exposed beams disappear a bit. That door goes into the full bathroom.
This is what you see when you walk into the basement from upstairs. We're definitely going to be walling in the laundry to create more of a laundry room/closet. There's also a ton of storage down here which I'm so excited for. The basement will be our project for next year. This year we'll focus on the upstairs!
Love it, and especially love your vision for it! I think I've told you thinks 50 times but we also want to paint our kitchen cabinets white. It makes such a difference! Is that a project you guys will take on yourselves, or do you think you'll hire someone? I go back and forth. Looking forward to seeing which white you go with! And having a basement is SO nice -- so much extra living and storage space. Congrats again!
ReplyDeleteHi!! Thank you! That is the only professional painting we will have done-- the cabinets. I want them to look great, so I'm using a guy who has done my client's cabinets before. They spray them, so it looks so nice. As for the color, we are just going with the existing trim color so that the cabinets don't look dirty or TOO bright for the trim color. The seller is leaving the colors with us so we'll know what white to get more of. No fun, but I don't want to repaint all the trim since it looks really good!

So exciting!!! Happy for you both! You may have thought of this, but have you considered dyeing the grout lines in the main floor full bath? If you did it a color a little closer to the tile, it would make them disappear.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the progress! Thank you for sharing!

Hi Lisa! That's a great idea! Yes, I've been thinking about that, because you're right, it would help SO much. We are going to see what happens when we remove the current vanity. If the floor needs to be totally replaced then we'll do that, but if it remains in tact, I'll probably stain or dye the grout lines!
DeleteSo exciting! Congratulations on your first house!! It is a very cute house and I know you will have a lot of fun working on it and living in it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Heide! I can't wait to get started!
DeleteCan't wait to see how you'll make this place your own! :) I wanted to paint our kitchen cabinets white when we moved in, but haven't done it yet so I'm excited to see your transformation!
