Fashion: Fall Outfit on Repeat

Photos by Katie Grace

Happy Halloween! Even though today is Halloween, we sadly aren't dressing up. We will be going over to my boyfriend's brother's house to see his nieces and nephews all dressed up, which should be really fun! There's also a chance of snow today, which is terrifying on many levels for me ;)

Since the cold has really set in here, this look has been on repeat for me. Denim (preferably colored), a warm sweater, and booties or boots. This bag comes with me wherever I go (as you've probably noted over the past year of fashion posts...ha!) My new obsession though?! This initial necklace from Bip & Bop, a sweet etsy shop that gave each of the attendees at Bloom a personalized necklace. I've worn mine every day since the workshop. It's hard to see from the picture, but I assure you it's dainty, simple and oh-so-pretty in gold. Love it!

What are your plans for Halloween? Other than seeing McCann's nieces and nephews, we are just laying low. Tomorrow is my 24th birthday (seriously, I don't understand how I am 24 already!) We will be doing something fun during the day and then going to dinner and dessert with friends. Should be a fun weekend.

Have a safe Halloween, filled with lots of sugar and sweets :)

Home Suite Home: Master Bedroom

This week in our Home Suite Home series, we are talking about the design of Lauren's Master Bedroom. Here's the floor plan of the room, so you can get an idea.

Right now, the bed is on the wall with the smaller window, and it butts up against the window, so only one person has a walkway to their side of the bed. I wanted to try to give both people access to their side of the bed, so I'm proposing to put the bed up against the sliding door that they do not use anyways. The curtains will cover this slider and act as a headboard of sorts. Lauren is going to try this configuration and let us all know how it works out :) Here's what I'm thinking:

Here is the design plan for the room. A few simple changes will really bring the room to a new level with some fresh zest. Help Lauren choose her bedding below!

Option ONE:

OPTION TWO:

SOURCESBedding 1white shamsaccent pillow  Bedding 2: printed shams, I Love You pillows / Curtains / Mirror / Lamp

Which one are you leaning towards? Simple, fluffy white with some fun pillows or a elegant patterned duvet with white shams and an accent pillow? Let us know in the comments!

DIY Gold Sequin Pumpkins

This month has been so busy, we haven't had a chance to carve our pumpkins! When I was out yesterday doing some errands, I found a mini pumpkin and some gold sequins I thought would be fun to adorn the pumpkin with. I headed home to create a little DIY ombre glitter pumpkin.

Materials: pumpkin, craft glue (mixed with a little water to spread easier), two sizes of gold sequins.

Step 1: spread your glue and water concoction on the bottom half of the pumpkin.

Step 2: put the larger sequins on the glue.

Step 3: Add more glue to the next half of the pumpkin and stick your smaller sequins on that portion of the glue.

Viola! There' my only little decorated pumpkin for the year. Have you carved pumpkins yet? I can't believe Halloween is on Friday. I also can't believe there's a chance of snow on Halloween here. Craziness. I'm so not ready for that ;)

Happy Wednesday!

Apartment Update: New Addition to the Bookshelf

This here is my favorite bookshelf in all the land. It's in my living / dining room and it holds books, frames, accessories and a plant. I recently got new bookends, something I desperately needs to better hold up my books, from Brooklyn Thread. They're not just any old bookend, though. These agate stone bookends are intricate, beautiful, and provide texture for the top shelf. I think they add so much interest to my bookshelf! Here are some more peeks:

Brooklyn Thread also sent me this amazing Agate Stone Candle Holder. I put it here on my dress in my bedroom because it is the exact accent color of my room-- berry! I love how it glistens when I light the candle inside the stone. It's just the coolest effect!

Headboard / Bedding / Floral Pillow / Lamp

I think these pretty gem stone pieces go so well with the flow of the rest of my home. Aren't they lovely?!

Hope you're enjoying your week so far! Happy Tuesday

24th Birthday Wish list

DETAILS | Boots (I asked for them in black!) / Necklace / Lavender AG Jeans / Yellow Ruffled Pullover /  PJ Set / Makeup Bag / Mac Lipstick (Plumful-- cutest color and I need a refill!) / Plum Gel Polish / Plaid Scarf / Apron / Birthday Matches / Three Sisters Bake Cookbook

My birthday is on Saturday, so it's time for my birthday wish list. You know, just incase my family (or boyfriend...cough cough...) need some last minute ideas ;) I know there's a lot on this inspiration board, so don't be thinking I'm getting it all. I really just had fun dreaming of some pretty new things! PS. I can't believe I'm going to be 24. Where has the time gone?!

I may or may not already know I'm getting these boots from my mom! I'm so excited :) Thanks in advance, mom + dad!

I've decided I'm better at baking (and also enjoy it way more) so the Three Sisters Bake cookbook looks so cute!

Lavender jeans...I'm not sure if there's anything more "me".

I need a new makeup bag so badly. Mine is ripping-- I think I've had it for 5 or 6 years now. Any suggestions? I do really love this one shown above!

It's already getting realllll chilly here in Michigan, so a new set of warm PJ's would be a cozy addition to my lounge clothes.

I bought my own shellac/gel nail polish kit at Target a few weeks ago so I could start saving money on manicures. It works so well-- just like when I go to get my nails done, the gel lasts for 2.5-3 weeks! I have my eye on this plum color

Anything else I should add to my list?! Happy Monday, friends!

Fall Updates Around my Apartment

While I am at Bloom Workshop today teaching away, I wanted to show you a few peeks into my apartment for fall! Remember a few months ago when I ordered a new couch? Well, it came and I adore it times a million. That little bench in the corner in the picture above was my old coffee table, but now it's sitting in the corner of the room acting as a little table for my lamp. One day, my desk will go in this corner, but as for now, this girl is saving money and working from her dining table! I set up a little chair and pouf combo and I think it makes a cute reading corner for now.

Okay, onto the fall decor :)

A tiny candy dish is veryyy intentional. Tiny = less candy can fit = less candy in me!

A little welcome sign I hand lettered with permanent chalk pen. I didn't realize the chalk pen wouldn't come off, so at least I got it right on the first try ;)

A mercury glass pumpkin is one of my favorite pieces, because it's simple and metallic.

My new mirrored tray from Nate Berkus' line at Target:

My boyfriend bought me some lovely roses and I thought they looked so pretty in front of my new cold candle tapers. I changed them out for Fall and love the look!

Have you done any minor decorating for Fall? I'm happy with just a few simple changes!

Have a wonderful Thursday!

Home Tour: Hollywood Hills

Photographed by Jessica Sample

Scandal actress, Katie Lowe, has a pretty cute house in the Hollywood Hills, I'd say! Did you catch it over on Lonny? From the second I saw her sofa with lots of patterned pillows, I was sucked in. From pops of color to the gorgeous driftwood mantel, and her love for stripes, I'd say Katie and I would get a long just fine :) That's one of my favorite dressers from West Elm in her bedroom, too!

What's your favorite part of the home tour?

Happy middle of the week!

Michigan Bloom Workshop Recap: Part Two

Are you ready for some serious pretty?! I'm bursting at the seams to show this next set of pictures to you! Yesterday we showed you Part One of our Michigan Bloom Workshop recap, and today is Part Two. During the first part of our time together at Bloom, we teach about the how's and why's of blogging, how to use social media for your business and blog, Ashley teaches on photography, and I teach on interior design and styling. For the second part of the day, we head outside and give the attendees a chance to practice what they just learned, allowing them to photograph and style an inspiration shoot I have designed. It's always a sure highlight of the day for the guests!

With the help of some fabulously talented artists and vendors, I designed a wedding-inspiraiton-shoot  with a black and white table runner as my starting point. As I teach at Bloom, the inspiration for your photo shoot, room design, painting, photography, etc. all starts from a new idea, concept, piece of fabric, pattern, color and more. From there, you build your story. After securing the black and white table cloth from Mrs. Freund & Co. (something that was new to me, as I have never worked with a graphic stripe in event design before!) I pulled in some softer hues of peach, pink, magenta, orange and more berry colors, to help give it a bit of an end-of-summer / fall color palette. Shelby, of The Day's Design, designed and executed the florals perfectly. She is SO good! The flowers always bring the design to life!

The gold flatware, peachy napkin, gold charger, plates, and stemware from The Rental Company all made the tabletop design complete! Take a look at the set up, the attendees at work shooting, and some of my favorite images from our photographer for the day, Jenn Anibal.

I mean...these flowers. Just too good.

Styling tip: Always fill your glasses with liquid, or the table will look unfinished! This is also true for an interior design shoot. If glasses, china, or bowls are on a table or out in general (unless they are clearly for display only), they should be filled. I once heard to fill a glass about 3/4 of the way full for interior shots to give it that "lived in" feel :)

Whatever it takes to get that shot! :)

Our amazing hair and makeup artist, Hailey Hollstein, fixing up our model's hair!

And now, some gorgeous photos of the finished product!

Happy Tuesday!
