Client Room: Bookshelf Styling Progress

I LOVE when I work with interior design client's who are fun and know what they like. Last week, I went shopping with one of my clients and we got lots of new accessories to style her bookcases. We are both swooning over the results! All we left is to finish up her custom curtains and pillows, then we will get to show you the final living room reveal. Side note: the top of the bookcases and the top of the console table aren't finished yet either. I just couldn't wait to show you the progress!

I always say the key to bookshelf styling is 3 main ingredients:
1. Books
2. Decorative objects with texture
3. Something living or green

My client wanted some more feminine things incorporated since the walls are darker gray (something she didn't want to change yet, but eventually might change!) and the furniture is more masculine with wood finishes, which her husband loves. Here is what we did with Brittani's shelves:

Her grandparent's old clock was a must-stay item, which I love. We put a wood lantern in the same tone as the console table on one shelf, accented with a stack of books and more feminine bird on top. The first shelf got some love with a globe and picture frame.

For the other shelf, we found this awesome terrarium in a shabby chic finish and filled it with tiny greenery plants. The shelf up got a stack of books (vertically this time, to infuse more visual interest) and a pretty bowl. The bowl will eventually be filled with apples, oranges, lemons or limes, depending on the season. The top shelf has a beautiful opal shell box (one of my favorite pieces to bring in texture with) and a wood ball sculpture. The top of this shelf will get these really pretty vases.

We also picked up a vase with beautiful flowers for the console table. The space is really coming together! What's your favorite thing to use for bookshelf styling?
