Good Morning, Sunshine!

Today we're going to talk about yellow.  It's directly across the color wheel from purple, which makes it it's compliment.  Complimentary colors make each color stand out more, so if you're looking to "pop" a color, choose to pair it with it's compliment!  (Purple and yellow, green and red, blue and orange etc.)

Yellow is the color of happiness, energy and joy.  It is the brightest color on the color wheel, therefore, drawing your eye immediately to something yellow, even if it's surrounded by all the other colors.  I learned last year in my color class that it may not be the best idea to paint a baby's room yellow, as it may cause them to have too much energy and cry more.  Silly, but it may be true!

So, let's take a look at some rooms with yellow:

Dontcha love the ceiling?? Very non-traditional and surprising, but still feels classic.  Do you notice how it's paired with PURPLE? Love it.

This room just has an undertone of yellow.  It's a creamy, buttery, soft yellow instead of an intense lemon color.  The lighting in this room is also contributing to the color.  I love the elegance the color brings to the space.

This is so fun, in my opinion.  I love the big pop of yellow in the wall art.  I also love that it's patterned.

Yellow accessories add some spunk to this cozy living room.

This master bedroom features a bold red head board wall, with three surrounding yellow walls.  I love the contrast it offers.

Soft, elegant, and soothing, this bathroom is any girls dream. The pastel toned yellow walls and claw foot tub add to the peaceful drama of the bathroom.  I also adore the yellow accents throughout the space. PS. what a beautiful window!!

Here we have my MadeByGirl print in Candy Lemon hanging in my family room. I love pairing yellow with turquoise!  And a small vase of yellow roses in my blue mason jar complete the vignette.

Or maybe you prefer a small bowl of lemons in your kitchen.  It'd also be a great accessory, because you can make lemonade at any time (:

How do you feel about yellow? Do you have it anywhere in your home? How's it make you feel?

Love and lemonade,

  1. Our master bedroom and bathroom are both yellow. They were painted that way when we moved in & our walls are so tall we just don't have the energy to re-paint! Super lazy, I know :( But I've been trying to "embrace" the yellow lately by pairing it with gray accessories since I love yellow and gray together. My high school colors were purple and yellow so I just couldn't go in that direction!

  2. I love yellow - I have accents of it in the kitchen - a few bowls and always fresh lemons and in the master bedroom where it contrasts with navy blue and white. Yellow makes me feel happy - like the sun is my life no matter what.

  14. These pictures are all beautiful, but that bathroom is a.maze.ing! I've never been a yellow person because my grandparents house was all yellow, but I am regretting that decision with all the gorgeous spaces I've seen done in yellow.

  19. I like yellow and I want to incorporate it more into my house. I had a preacher once argue with me that yellow makes you angry opposed to red... I completely disagree. Yellow is such a happy and refreshing color! I love the bathroom with the cool window! Have a good day!

  32. I actually kind of like some of these yellow ideas! I am not a fan of painting walls with the bright, lemony yellow. It's a little too much for me. But I do like the more pale yellow color, and I love little pops of yellow.

I really like your posts about colors and what they do and the different ways to use them. Thanks! :)

Let's talk about picture #1. There is so much design going on in there that is very unique. I love way the old is mixed with the contempory. The contempory: definately the yellow ceiling with the black lighting fixture, the style of the art work on both sides of the bed, the clean feeling of the crips white, and the texture of the carpet. The old: I love the bedside table with the hand crank to raise and lower the height, the antique look of the quilt thrown across the bed and how could you not love the rustic look of that headboard with the black light fixtures placed unexpectidly on it. Great design job.

That bathroom is pretty great... and I also love the idea of pairing it with navy, a couple of people mentioned that. I'm feeling the need to paint something. :-))
