Purple, anyone?

Last year I took a color psychology class and learned a lot about what different effects colors can have on a person and a space.  I enjoyed it so much I'm going to start doing some posts on what the colors mean and make you feel like!  Some are quite interesting.

Purple might be most definitely is my favorite color on the color wheel.  Sitting directly opposite of yellow, purple is the perfect color to make you feel at peace.  Since it's character foil is yellow, which exudes energy and makes you want to go-go-go, peace and serenity is only fitting for the personality of purple.  If asked what color I would be on the color wheel, I would not answer purple, for  I'm a go-go-go personality like yellow.  Purple just happens to make me smile the most.   Having lots of purple in my wardrobe and my bedroom is soothing to me (:  It's on the cool side of the color wheel, so it will automatically make walls recede and help the space appear bigger.  Oh and here's the fun part: it's the color of royalty.  Yes, it will make you feel like a princess instantly.  And, really, who doesn't want that?!

{Elle Decor} Just little touches found in a throw or pillows or artwork is a simple way to bring a touch of royalty to the space.

{Elle Decor} Simply fabulous.  You realllyyy gotta like purple to live in this space! It may be a bit much even for me, but it's still a thoughtfully designed, well executed design.  The touches of cream and pink, as well as the light pouring in those beautiful windows, helps balance the purple that's coming in at a high dose in this living room.  I love the combination of shades of the color, too!  The sheer architectural features in this room are enough to get me.

Do you like it in a small dose, or are you going big?  What color would you like to know about next?!

{PS. Does anyone watch The Bachelor?? Gotta admit it's my guilty pleasure (: }

  6. I love splashes of purple! It's such a pretty, feminine color without being over-the-top girly like pink. My sister painted her walls a light lavender and then the wall behind her bed a darker shade of the lavender... it turned out great!

  8. Purple is my favorite too and I used it for my wedding! Though at home, I seem to gravitate towards blues. Probably because my husband wouldn't necessarily go for purple rooms, though the office will be painted a purple gray shade in the future :)

  9. i love purple, but i don't think the hubby would go for it.... maybe a grayish-purple? i've also been seeing a lot of darker rooms, like black and dark navy... they looks so chic and modern... i would love to do something like that!!

  10. I did somewhat of a similar post this past summer. A little different, but involves purple.

I won't lie, I'm not the biggest purple fan, but I can see how it could be a calming color. I'd definitely be a fan of just purple accents.

  15. My MIL painted her living room purple. She LOVES the color. I like it, in small doses. I'm more a plum if I had to be purple kinda gal.

P.S. Welcome back to Seattle. It may be freezing, but at least it isn't raining. For once.

  16. I am a go big or go home kinda girl... I have always been a bit on the dramatic side, especially with paint choices. In my old age (hehe j/k) I am feeling a bit of fear when choosing, maybe its because I dont want the hubby to have to live with something he doesnt like. I am majorly into using color to create a the mood for a room. I havent taken a class but I read about it and even have a cheat sheet in my design binder.

  19. I never thought I would be a fan of purple in home decor, but after being the color of 2010 I have a different view for sure. Although you probably won't see it in my home anytime soon, I really enjoy looking at it in other peoples spaces!

  21. I LOVE PURPLE! Purple and grey are my absolute FAVORITE colors (I wonder what that says about me), but anyway, if I could, I would do a whole house with grey, white and purple (but I love the tint of pink in the last photo). I would do some rooms with just a hint and others with a pow!

OOh, I'm getting myself excited! Darn, I just need a home!

  24. I love this post!! I think purple definitely makes me feel like a princess!

When I was in elementary school, I did a social studies project on "The Power of Color." It was so much fun! We researched all about the different colors and how they make you feel. We even died food weird colors, just to prove that color can make you not want to eat something, plus it'll make it taste different to you...all just because the color is different! (Think blue scrambled eggs!)

    Can't wait to read more!
