Fishtail Braid Up-Do Tutorial

The holidays are right around the corner, which means there will plenty of parties, get-togethers, family dinners, friends are back in town, and endless shopping outings. How would we get through this holiday season without a few new hairstyle tricks up our sleeves?! We just couldn't-- obviously ;)

If you know how to fishtail braid, this one will be nice and easy. If you don't, here's my brief explanation:
Start by taking a small section of hair from the right side of your head and cross it to the left. Gently pull. {No need to twist it under other strands or anything. Just leave it on top!} Take a small strand of hair from the left side and cross it over to the right side.  Gently pull. Continue doing this until you run out of hair. Secure with elastic at the end and follow the rest of the instructions to complete the up-do.
Despite popular belief, a fishtail braid is much easier than a french braid-- all you're doing is crisscrossing sections of hair instead of actually braiding. Give it a try and tell me how it turns out.

The only tips I have for this hairstyle is to curl your hair before, as it makes braiding and handling the hair much easier {note: I do this before buns and other styles, too}. Teasing the crown always adds volume and keeps hair in place. Lightly hairspray afterward to maintain the up-do for a whole evening of fun.

I hope you can add this fishtail up-do to your holiday party repertoire. Do you like these hair tutorial posts, or should I stick to design stuff? Let me know!

Have a lovely day and great weekend!

  14. Love this! I always do a side fishtail. I've never tried one down the back but it looks super easy. Plus that bun is just adorable.

  15. You are really good with hair, my friend! You should probably move to Atlanta and move in with me so you can do my hair every day. The best I've got is a messy bun. Lame.

  17. You are too cute friend! I love this look. I cannot do my own hair to save my life, aside from curling it. Braiding? Nope. I can suture, but I can't get my hands around my own hair. haha! Hope you're doing well! I LOVE the blouse by the way too! (well of course, hello.. it's white! haha!)
