Our Dining Room Reveal

I hope you all had a lovely Easter! If you missed out Easter post, you can find it here :)
Today I'm revealing our finished dining room and I'm so excited to show you! It's been a work in progress, much like the rest of our house, since we moved in. We finally got the art hung, our new chairs in and I got it photographed, so here we are!
So you know what we started with, here is a BEFORE photo (from the listing of our house):

And here's the AFTER!

We switched the light fixture (which wasn't even a proper dining light fixture before, as it was hung way too high- ha!), added a door to the builtin nook, hung curtains high and wide so that the ceilings would appear taller, hung art, got a new table (I designed it and had it built by Haven Creek in Rockford, MI, but they sadly don't do custom builds now), rug and chairs. Phew! Thankfully other than this room, we didn't have to buy any furniture for the new house...we had almost everything we needed for now.

The Light Fixture:

I am so in love with our dining room light fixture from Hudson Valley. It just makes the whole room! The space is long and narrow so I wanted something to really fill up some visual space. The touch of brass picks up perfectly with the gold picture frame behind it. I am so grateful to have partnered with Hudson Valley Lighting on the lighting in our new home! If we move, I'm definitely going to be taking some of them with me, including this one :)

The Table:

We brought the upholstered chairs we had from our old apartment with us and had our table custom made with a bench. It works really well when people come over because you can squeeze lots of people on the bench. The table is 7' long and the top is a gorgeous herringbone pattern. I designed the base of the table to have a pretty, classic, yet simple X base.

Centerpiece hack: $2 Eucalyptus stems will last you forever!! I've had these almost a month now. They take up a lot of space on your table, so they're a perfect centerpiece.

The Artwork:

I knew we needed something large and I wanted something with color to bring in some blues and greens to tie in with the rug and curtains. Large art is expensive and I wanted to be budget conscious, so I turned to one of my favorite resources, Juniper Print Shop. The carry many different artists' work at very affordable prices. You can either get prints shipped to you, or download the file to print yourself. I was so excited to work with them for this piece of art, because the second I saw it, I knew it was perfect. It had deep green tones to play off the curtains, some blues to tie in with the rug, and some blush hues for a pop. I've since connected with the artist on Instagram and she's so talented!

The Chairs:

I chose our table stain almost a year ago and still hadn't gotten chairs for the other side. One day while shopping for a client online, I noticed these chairs from Pottery Barn were almost identical in color to our table stain! I had some credit to PB, so I ordered them right away. I can't believe it, but the match is almost the exact same. I'm so happy with it! They're a really good price and on sale right now.

The Frame:

I partnered with one of my FAVORITE frame resources, Framed & Matted. Their name is so easy to remember, too! ;) They have simply beautiful frame options to choose from and the sizes are all custom. It's so easy to build your own frame! The museum glass is what I went with and I love how it all looks. I was SO impressed with the quality of the frame, instructions it came with on how to hang it and that they include all the hardware to hang it seamlessly. Our frame is called the Parker.

The sun was shining this day I took photos, so it's making the print look rippled, but I assure you it is not ;)

Thanks for stopping by to see the dining room! I hope you like it! I wish we could have some friends over now to celebrate, but we'll have to wait for that... :)

Happy Tuesday!

Client Reveal: Michigan Modern White & Gray Kitchen

I love Wednesday! Making it to the middle of the week feels like an accomplishment. In case you missed it last week, I shared the family room of this home. Today I'm excited to share the kitchen and dining room, after taking a poll of what room you'd like to see next on my instagram. (Thanks for voting!)

The kitchen, dining room and living room are all open to each other with no dividing walls. We kept the whole space one color so it felt cohesive and made it feel even larger. Collingwood by BM is one of my favorite grieges these days. It goes great with beiges, grays, and any accent colors. One of the reasons I love it is because it gives warmth, depth and makes your trim pop, but also makes the room feel light airy.

Probably my favorite element in the whole room is this gorgeous custom table we had made by my friends at Haven Creek in Rockford, MI. Everything they create is stunning and so well made! When I can support local businesses like this, I always do my best to do it. This orb chandelier makes the perfect statement and ties in our matte black hardware throughout the house.

 rug-- on sale now

I just love how their kitchen turned out! The gray island gives the kitchen the perfect amount of contrast and the gorgeous quartz countertops make it feel so sleek and clean. To warm it up a little, we did some open shelves (stained the same as the shelves in the family room) for displaying serving pieces and accessories. We brought the warm tones from the wood shelves into the window coverings (gorgeous custom roller shades) to continue to unify the space.

Using the same subway tile, we set it in a herringbone pattern behind the range and I love the subtle yet effective design element in brought to the room.

If you are wanting to cover a window in your home and get the look of a roman shade, but don't want the larger stack of fabric sitting at the top of your window when the shade is drawn up, roller shades are a great option! When rolled up they sit in the cassette at the top, which is only about 3-4" high, so you still have your view out the window. I get all my shades from The Blind Spot of West Michigan and love working with them.

I love when sinks face out towards the room. It just seems to work so well for gatherings-- if people are over and you're doing dishes, your back isn't toward them and you're still able to continue conversation. And don't even get me started on this huge farmhouse sink! That's on my dream home wishlist ;)

New Art for a Client Dining Room

Remember this pretty white kitchen reveal from Monday? Well, we still had to finish off the dining room side of the room, so I went back to style that area of the space this week and we LOVE how it turned out.
I get a lot of questions about what to do with wall space and in this case, the buffet certainly needed something above it. It felt so empty with nothing. We couldn't do a mirror, though one would have been lovely, because we have a mirror in the family room across from the dining room. And after some thought, I realized we needed something with color (we were thinking of a wooden sign for a while, but those are so neutral, I don't think it would have given us the spark we needed!)
Here's the space:

You can see the buffet in the far right of this picture:

Just for reference, this is a section of the family room that we did a couple months ago:

When I found this art in a local store, I was like HOW PERFECT IS THAT with the pillows in the family room?! It was meant to be. This would have been too matchy-matchy if it were RIGHT next to the pillows, but because it's across the room, it brings everything together just enough.

The Eucalyptus branches are from Hobby Lobby and they're 50% off this week. They have the perfect dusty green color which I think looks more authentic than bright green faux plants.

My thought process behind styling this vignette was that we needed height, we needed art, and we needed to bring the art together with the buffet / console table. So to do that I brought in two higher pieces on either side (height!). If we stopped there, then we would have had too symmetrical of an area, so I added the third object of the tray and drinks, scooting them to the left to create asymmetry, but still have a visually balanced finished product.

As I mentioned on Instagram, we were leaning it until my client could hang it up with the right picture hanging hook. Though I do love the leaning art look, we hung this (they have two dogs, so safety-wise it really needed to be hung!)
We just love how it turned out! Now the only thing left to do is get new barstools and the whole room will be complete.

Happy Friday! I'm off to a new client meeting this morning and can't wait to start on this new project. Then I have a couple of calls to finalize details for our last Bloom Workshop of the year. This weekend looks hot and sunny, so hopefully we'll get some time to relax by the pool. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Our New Dining Chairs

Hi ladies! First things first, This is Us comes back tonight for season 2 and I couldn't be more excited. If you haven't watched season 1, you have about 12 hours to binge ;)  Okay, on to the post...

We've lived in our apartment for about 18 months now and we really love it. It would be nice to have some more space (like an extra bedroom!) but having a garage, a pool, a workout room and a washer and dryer in our unit are a few things that we're really thankful for. Because of the small space, the dining area (not even a room) doubles as the office / work space. Therefore, we need some really comfortable chairs since they are playing double duty for us. A few weeks ago we got a pair of new chairs and we're both loving them!! We really liked the ones we had before, but my husband requested more sturdy chairs this time, which I had to agree with. I still wanted a light chair with darker legs and some sort of detailing, so that's what I set out to find.

I found these chairs at Lamps Plus, who I always thought just had lighting, but nope! Lamps Plus has tons of awesome chairs, among other furniture, and they won't break the bank. They looked sturdy and had the beautiful tufting AND nail head trim, so viola! They were perfect. We're really happy with the new ones and I like how they fill the space a bit better, too. My husband approves them because they are a lot wider than our old chairs and don't creek with movement. Yay!

Flowers from our anniversary trip :)

Table- I custom designed it and had a builder make it for me locally / Chairs

Now I find myself wanting a small round rug for under the table. I'm still debating getting one, because I'm not sure if it's worth it for the time we have left at our apartment, but I know it would look so great and really warm the space up! I'll keep you posted ;)

I'll be back next week with some other updates around our apartment!
