Inspired Room Tour: My Dining Room

I'm so excited to give you a little tour of my favorite room in my apartment, as a part of The Inspired Room Home Tour in celebration of Melissa's new book launch. My favorite room is probably my dining room (which is also connected to my living room and kitchen.) I love the vaulted ceilings, so I accentuated them with long, gold patterned curtains. Because the space is tiny, I had to get a custom table made. I actually drew out the design for a local handy man who made it for me! Then I found a pair of chairs, a small buffet for dining / entertaining storage and hung some metal work art. To continue adding height, I dressed the buffet with candlesticks and set my favorite gold tray on there along with pretty cocktail glasses.

Another thing I love about this room is the amount of light it gets. There's also been some fun times around this table-- I adore having my high school girls come over for bible study, I loved sharing meals with my mom when she visited, and it's always a treat when I make dinner for my boyfriend and I, enjoyed at this table. Breaking bread with your people is something to be cherished and not forgotten.

Melissa's book, The Inspired Room, is such a gorgeous coffee table book, but aside from that, it's filled with helpful design insight, her decorating process, sweet anecdotes and inspiring pictures of her home. Last week at Bloom we had a cocktail party celebrating her book launch and I was giddy to finally get my hands on the book! So much love went into these glossy pages. Friends, you're going to LOVE it. And yep, that's copper/gold foil on the front cover!! Dying.

Stunning...

25th Birthday Wish List

DETAILSchecked sweater / gray dress / oatmeal cookie candle / 2016 calendar / baking book / heart socks / booties / flower iphone case / oh lola perfume /

I can hardly believe I turn 25 this weekend (November 1st!) I guess this is when life gets really serious ;) Since I am busy on my actual birthday, we will be celebrating it this Friday or Saturday. I'm excited to spend the weekend with my boyfriend, who I haven't seen in a week or so because of both of our business trips. He said he's taking me shopping for a new sweater-- the best kind of birthday present :)

Since winter is upon us here, I need a few things to keep warm in the freezing months. I found a few at Anthro I'm loving! I also really want a yummy candle, some warm socks, a new iPhone case (mine broke!), a new perfume, and maybe a new pair of booties. Fun little things!

While my mom was visiting me here in Michigan a few weeks ago, she got me this adorable skirt and lace top as an early birthday gift. I ended up wearing it to Bloom Bash last week and loved it!

That's my wish list! Here's to year 25 :)

Happy Tuesday!

Client Progress: Family Room Touches

I'm excited to show a few updates to a client project with you today! For this client, we are sprucing up the look of many rooms in her home to give it that "complete" feeling. With 3 young girls, things need to be practical, yet sophisticated. Today I'm giving you a peek at the family room transformation.  For perspective, we're doing a good old fashioned before & after (well, almost done!)

BEFORE:

Because the leather couches are new, my clients decided to keep them and instead just brighten up the room in other ways. She wanted to add some color, pattern and interest. She told me she had the foundation pieces, but the room has never felt cozy, decorated or finished. Here's a look:

I measured, came up with a design plan and then we executed. Here's the space today:

ALMOST DONE!

We added a long off-white Trellis Mirror to brighten up this wall above the leather couch, made custom pillow covers to dress up the pair of sofas and hung some fun curtains to tie it together.

And one more sneak peek of the TV wall. It's totally transformed! This was the design plan and this is how it turned out. Looks just like the rendering :)

I shared this update on Instagram the other day:

Now instead of the TV sticking out as a dark black box on the wall, it's surrounded by beautiful artwork, framed in a gorgeous, metallic frame. The new media console is more substantial, taking up more space and completing the look.

Can't wait to get the rest of the house finished and photographed for you to see! It never fails: just a few simple additions can dramatically change the look and feel of a room. It went from house to home with pillows, artwork and some added color and pattern :)

Happy Tuesday!
