On My Desk No.4

Happy Friday! And can I just emphasize the HAPPY in that statement?! I'm done with finals, friends!!!

This week I'm showing you a sneak peek image from an inspiration shoot I helped style last weekend with my friend Christine.  This is a photo I took to practice my photography for fun, so just wait until you see the final images from Christine. Stunning!

I'm also showing you a final project for one of my classes. I designed and drew this perspective drawing by hand then rendered it using markers {which is serious business, let me tell you.}  Next, I scanned it into the computer and tweaked a few things in Photoshop to get it just like I wanted it.   All of the furniture you see on the boards is the furniture I chose to put in the room, and the drawing reflects all of the specs.  I'm pretty excited about how the final product turned out, but let's just say I'm not planning to offer rendered perspective drawing services when I open my business. Anyone who has done one knows how much time and effort they take, and would probably agree :)  A labor of love, that is for certain.

Me at 10pm when I finally finished it. Proud and d.o.n.e. :)

That's a bit of what I've been up to.  I'm currently on the road driving home to the Bay Area for my Spring Break. Hooray! A whole 3 weeks with family and friends. What do you have planned this weekend?

Happy Weekend!
xoxo

In My Perspective...

Hi, all! Hope your Easter weekend was wonderful! If you missed the picture on yesterday's Easter post, it's almost worth it to look now(:

Today I'm sharing my latest Perspective Drawing class project with y'all {Oh yeah, I started saying y'all over on Megan's blog(: }  Our assignment is to draw our dream room in perspective.  Sound easy?  It's not! But it sure is fun.  And hey, I'd rather spend 3 hours drawing than studying for a chemistry exam.  Fall quarter I took a floor plan drafting class and loved it. We learned how to draft elevations and plans, and my favorite elevation was of my kitchen, so for this perspective project I knew I wanted to do a kitchen.  Here are my two inspiration images.  You may be confused since one isn't a kitchen, but I'll explain below!

Any ideas of how I'm combining these two lovely photos??

Here's the scoop:
I loved the idea of the loft above a room, so above the kitchen, I'm adding a loft-catwalk-looking-thing to add some interest and depth.  Here's my floor plan and elevation so far:

An elevation is just a flat drawing of one wall of the room.  My elevation is the North wall in the above floor plan.

The store fireplace doubles as a pizza oven. It was my favorite feature of the inspiration room, so I knew it was staying. Note to self: pizza kitchen is on my wish list for my future home (:

Hope you enjoyed a tiny look into my school work! Suggestions are always welcome.  Next up is actually drawing it in perspective.

Hope you have a wonderful Monday! I'm off to kick a Textile midterm {the day after Easter, really?!} in the booty!

I've Been Diagnosed with a Case of...

...my life is consumed with reading, so much so that my hands always have highlighter on them, my floor is covered in fabric threads, my scissors are ruined from cutting double-sided tape, my desk has marker lines on it, and I really need a nap syndrome.

And it's in critical condition.  Here's why:
I'm in school.
But you already knew that!  I'm taking 18 units which is a little above a normal class load when you're on quarters, and let me tell ya...I'm feeling it. BUT I'm not complaining.  I'm loving my classes and learning a lot! I couldn't be more grateful to be here learning what I love.  So what an awesome opportunity to share my classes with you!

Here are the classes I'm taking:
Textiles: We learn about all sorts of different materials and how they're made.  Did you know if you wash your jeans inside-out with 1 cup of vinegar the first time you wash them, the color lasts longer with every additional wash?

Professional Practice: This is my favorite class so far.  It's all about how to run our own interior design business. This is really appealing to me, because eventually I want to own my own residential design firm.

Individual Family & Development: This is a psychology class that goes through the lifespan of a person. It's required for the entire Family Consumer Science Department {nutrition, apparel design, interior design and individual family development} because each major works with the basic needs of people.

Perspective Drawing: If you follow me on Twitter, you know I'm in this perspective class.  Probably because I tweeted a picture of my latest creation. While in class. Hi Mom, I'm sorry.

If you missed my tweet, here are some pictures of a 3D model of a little girls' dresser I created using a 1 inch scale. The first cut out is a shelf for books so the little one can reach them.

The pink drawer pulls are stickers I just happened to find in my supply cabinet!

I'm really excited about this class.  Soon we'll be designing our dream room. My wheels are already spinning!

Side Note: So while I try to get over my illness {ha} I have a question.  How do you manage blogging between school, work, and being a mom? Do you have a system? I just love reading your blogs and want to keep up with comments and replying, but school comes first, of course. No, my dad did not pay me to say that.  Blogging is not a chore to me, I just wish I had more time to do it because I love it so much! Thoughts?
