How to Throw a Gender Reveal Party

I'm prefacing this post with we are not pregnant, it's some of our best friend's gender reveal! ;)

At the end of January we got the chance to celebrate some of our dearest friends and throw them a gender reveal party for their little babe on the way! It has been a long road to get here for them (you can read a little more about their journey here where my friend Leah and her husband graciously shared about walking through grief) and we are just over-the-moon for them!!

My friend Jill and I did the planning and then another sweet friend and amazing photographer, Katie Huff, captured the morning for us!

We had the gender reveal at our friend's house, which is adorable, by the way! We decided to just do some simple decorations like this baby balloon (found at Party City) with some garlands we already had. I love that Katie got these images of them under the sign. So cute!

This party took place around 11am, so we did a brunch theme which fit in perfectly with the little phrase I wanted to use!

"Boy or Girl?! We DONUT know!"

I had this large frame, so just got black spray paint and painted the backing to the frame, then used white glass markers to write the phrase on the outside of the glass. Of course, you could just use a chalkboard if you have one, as well.

We got pink and blue donuts along with lots of other flavors so everyone could take what they liked! Aside from donuts we had some muffins and fruit. It was the perfect amount of everything!

We put together a small little Mimosa / Mom-osa bar with two types of juice and your choice of champagne or sparkling club soda. I had lots of garnishes for the mimosas so everyone could add whatever they wanted! Pink and blue straws finished it off.

Garnishes: mint, lemon, lime, pom seeds, blackberries.

We wanted to have a couple of activities for guests to do before the big reveal, so we came up with the following:

1. We wanted everyone to identify what gender they were guessing, so instead of having them wear the color, my friend Jill made these felt blooms and bowties! We had safety pins there so everyone pinned on their guess when they arrived.

2. A little name game was also a fun activity! We had everyone write their boy and girl name suggestions and drop them in a jar. We had Leah and Jake read the name suggestions aloud at the end and they got to choose their favorite from each jar. The winners got a Starbucks card to make it more fun :)

3. Leah framed her latest ultrasound picture and we had everyone sign the matting of the frame in the color they guess so she can hang this in the nursery. So sweet!

Grandma-to-be getting a good look at the little one!

This polaroid camera is so fun. Leah had it at her wedding and it was such a hit. Everyone passed it around and took tons of great pictures.

Before the big reveal, Katie took Leah and Jake outside for some pictures! (Jake recently tore his achilles so he just had surgery!)

We decided to do the reveal with two powder canons! I found out the gender a couple weeks early so I could order these. They were really fun!

Ready to find out?!

It's a.....

Everyone cheered! Lots of friends and family facetimed with Leah's family who lives across the country. It was so fun!

My husband and Jake celebrating. So thankful for their friendship!

Baby boy, we are so excited to meet you in June! I love you already! Next up, his nursery which we might be helping with in the coming months ;)
