Two Easy Summer Styles

I hope you're having a great week! I'm still here in California visiting my family, seeing my parents' new house, and saying goodbye to my childhood home. I fly back to Michigan on Friday and it's bittersweet! 

I'm excited to share a couple fun, easy-to-wear summer styles today. To me, these feel so effortless and put together! Just what we want in the summer months.

First up is this really lightweight, embroidered top. I LOVE embroidery! A couple years ago when I took some time to think about words I wanted to describe my style as a way to help with my buying decisions, the phrases "special detail" and "feminine" both came to mind. I love a special detail, whether it be a bow, an eyelet material, ruffles, or embroidery. This one stood out to me right away!

I'm also sporting the headband from last week's post again because that's how cute it is. This time I styled it differently and left some hair out in front of the headband. Which look do you prefer?! 

For the second look, I paired a super simple racer back tank with a cute pair of high waisted pull-on shorts. I love this waistband's ruffly detail! This outfit can be paired with sneakers like I did here, sandals or even wedges if you want to dress it up! (Cameo by Lincoln's tail ;))

I threw on a denim jacket with it as well. Cuffing the sleeves gives it a finishing touch!

Memorial Day Sale Outdoor + Bedding Favorites

I cannot believe we're already a couple days out from Memorial Day! And you know what that means?! SALES! With summer days right around the corner, this is the perfect time to get some pieces for your patio, deck, or even the inside of your house for a summer refresh. I love switching out a couple things for the seasons. Usually for the summer I try to go more light and airy. I put away our gingham couch pillows in favor of a pretty, light, floral print. Summer Lovin' Essentials + Beach Towel Giveaway

Hi friends! I hope enjoyed your weekend! This weekend we had gray skies and lots of humidity, so we stayed inside mostly, playing with the puppy and then went to the mall + out to dinner on Saturday evening. It was enjoyable and relaxing! I also started watching Mad Men on Netflix. My husband has seen it all the way through, but I never had, so since I love the 50's, I thought I'd like it. If you had told me I'd STILL be blogging 7 years ago, I wouldn't have believed you. I love, love, love this little blog because it means I get to take all of my passion God has given me for design, the home, people, style, entertaining and hosting, community and more, and bottle it up in little posts here for others to see and hopefully enjoy. If you're interested in starting a blog or have a small creative business where you think you should start a blog to support that business, I say go for it! Summer Essentials: Home Accessories

Accessories are a fun way to instantly update your space. While you probably want to keep your big items-- sofa, tables, beds, chairs, etc. -- you have more flexibility with the little items of decor, pillows, and curtains. Here are some of my favorite decor items for summer above.

- I love me a gold terrarium. West Elm has SO many cute shapes and sizes this season!
- A two-tiered cake stand tower is so fun for parties and entertaining, but I can also see it out on your kitchen counter for everyday use. It can house your fruit, snacks, small mugs, or a cute plant.
- Change out some of your art in your gallery wall with a fresh, colorful print to reflect to the season! I love this floral print.

Other items to change out for the warmer season are entry rugs, doormats, and pillows.

Summer Essentials: Shoes

Summer is all about being light, airy, on-the-go, and open-toed. I love sandal weather, so today I've rounded up my faves. I have a pair of Rainbows which are great for throwing on for the beach, Sam Edelman flat sandals for around town, and a similar pair of wedges for date nights, church or fancier outings.

These "save" version of the gem sandals above are from Target and I adore them! See?! And I think they're half the cost of the ones I included above.

Summer Essentials: Patio & Deck Decor

A few weeks ago I showed you my own patio space at my apartment. I love the fact that I have (tiny) outdoor area to enjoy lunch and dinner in another room besides my dining room. I've rounded up a bunch of my favorite outdoor decor for summer. A few of my favorites include the lanterns, seagrass candle holders, and the fun printed pillows. 

If you're looking for gorgeous indoor / outdoor plants or any type of unique decor, you should check out Terrain. It's Anthropologie's sister store, and equally as amazing. Here are some favorites for your patio:

Summer Essentials: Dresses

Last week I showed you some of my favorite tees and tanks for summer, so this week I'm back giving you some of the cutest summer dresses. A few are splurges (think of them as good investments!) and some are major steels, like this one. As you know, I'm much more of a dress gal myself. I don't love shorts (but when I do wear them, I wear this style!) so usually you can find me in a casual, day dress. They're easy to throw on and you look very put together with little effort.

Summer Essentials: Shirts, Tanks & Tees

I'm back for the second installment in my Summer Essentials series. This week it's all about the tops! In Michigan it's very humid (compared to California, where I am from!) so I tend to stick to light weight tanks, tees and blouses. Here are a few of my go-to tops. I actually have many of them-- including the top white shirt, bottom left blush top (on sale for $15!), and bottom right aqua tank (on sale for $15!)

There's just something about white shirts that get me every time. They go with absolutely everything! This is definitely the color I gravitate towards most. What about you?

Summer Essentials: Shorts

Today marks the start of a new series I'll be running almost weekly throughout the summer months called Summer Essentials. It's so easy to get hung up on how to put an outfit or a room together, I thought I'd bring it back to the basics and just give you my favorite essentials. Today we're focusing on shorts and rompers! 

Shorts are extremely necessary in the warmer, humid states (hello, Michigan!) so above are some of my favorite cuts and styles. If you've been reading my blog for a bit, you know I actually am not a huge fan of shorts, because when I was in high school I wasn't allowed to wear them to school. Dang dress code! I still have thoughts like "Michaela, you're breaking the rules!" when I wear shorts. I feel uncomfortable in shorts that are too short (here's my PSA to all high school girls that think super short shorts are cute and make your bootie look good: they really do you no favors. Promise!), so the key is to find pairs that are a bit longer, without looking frumpy or too big. Like I've mentioned a dozen times on the blog, my go-to shorts are the J.Crew 3" Chino. I love them because they are the perfect length, they have a loose fit so they don't hug your thighs too tight, and they come in all different colors.
